Serena and Lily Friends & Family Sale (And a Peek at Our Fall Decor)

I've decided one of my very favorite things is transitioning our home with the seasons. Of course designing a room and choosing the large anchor pieces is fun, but I really love the smaller details that make a home – and a season – special. Changing out vignettes, adding seasonal produce for color in the kitchen, and swapping out pillows and artwork are just a few things I love to do when a new season arrives. Thank you to Serena and Lily for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are my own.

That's why I was so pleased to receive these gorgeous pillows from Serena and Lily, one of my absolute favorite home sources. I love that they created a fresh look for autumn, while still keeping with our home's neutral color palette.

I hadn't tried 24x24 pillows on our sofa yet and I have to say they make such a huge difference! The scale is just so good and really elevates the whole room. I'm so happy to have discovered I really prefer this size on our sofa.

I love the subtle plaid of the Blakeley pillow - perfect for autumn!

And the starburst pattern on the Seascape pillow was just too gorgeous to resist, especially paired with a Mayne lumbar.

Right now everything at Serena and Lily is 20% off for their big Friends and Family Sale, so it's the perfect time to pick up those items that will make your home feel fresh, or even score those larger statement pieces.

One of my very favorite things in our home are our Serena and Lily Riviera bar stools. We've had them for more than two years now and  I love how they are a classic style, but updated for our modern home.

And I especially love that they are super family-friendly and can easily be wiped down. Our kids eat lots of their meals here (and they've had the peanut butter and jelly smeared on them to prove it!) but the stools always look good as new with a quick wipe down.

Here are a few more of my picks from the Serena and Lily sale! Let me know what you score while everything is 20% off!

Our Fall Front Porch

This is the first season I've done much with our porch, since we didn't love the exterior before we had it painted this summer (full exterior reveal coming very soon!). But now that we have the white house of our dreams, I was excited to deck out our front porch for the season. I headed to my favorite place for affordable home decor, Walmart, and chose a few key pieces that really dressed it up for autumn. Thank you to Walmart for sponsoring this post, as always all opinions are my own.

I think my favorite element are these great arched metal lanterns. They make such a statement but are only $16 each! I believe they are in-store only but I bought mine online and picked up in store which was super easy and saved me trying to hunt them down. (If you haven't tried Walmart's in-store pick up yet, try it! It's so seamless and high-tech. Your items are delivered out of a giant tour when you scan your phone - pretty amazing!)

I also really loved how they tie into the black of our new porch lantern for a pop against the white.

I keep the chairs, our classic square planters and these great faux topiaries on the porch year-round, which is a great base for layering seasonal items.

I also added tons of neutral pumpkins. My favorites are always the muted pastels and of course the whites. Can you tell which ones are the faux pumpkins? I love mixing real and faux for even more impact. Walmart has a really good selection of pale faux pumpkins right now.

Every year I like to pick up some white mums, and this year I put them in this gorgeous white planter with great texture. It's such a nice size, especially for the price!

On our outdoor wicker chairs I added these great plaid pillows, which are reversible to gingham on the other side (and only $12!). I love using plaid this time of year. Behind the chairs I hung one of my favorite pieces, this gorgeous gold metal wheat wreath. It's so affordable and such a nice large size!

Stacking pumpkins has always been one of my favorite tricks during the fall. Here I placed a stack on the steps but they also make a statement in an urn.

After saving for a few years to paint our exterior and then having it be a bigger/bumpier project than we intended this summer it felt so good to get to enjoy our home's exterior and make it special for the season. I hope I could inspire you to do the same at your home!

Affordable Vintage-Inspired Rugs

Every so often, I just get that itch to change something in a room. I can feel totally content with a room one minute and then suddenly decide, "Oh no, that's not quite right, it needs to be more like this." I suppose that's the evolution of style (or the influence of Instagram, you decide). I really love our living room and feel like the major pieces are in place, but I was craving something different for the rug. I love the layered look and the jute is pretty much indestructible, but I was ready for a change.

I decided I wanted a vintage-look rug, and of course I wanted it on a budget. I was hoping for something overall neutral but with some muted blues or even pinks mixed with grays, ivories and beiges. Let me tell you, I spent some time and effort finding just the right thing. I felt like I looked at google searches and scoured websites until my eyeballs bled. I finally found the perfect thing, but also discovered a lot of other really great rug options, so I thought I would save you the hours hunting and the eyeballs bleeding and round them up for you.

Can you guess which one I chose? They're all so pretty, right?! Number 5 was the one I originally thought I was going with and it's beautiful, with lots of subtle blues. Number 6 is just stunning (you can see it used in a room here) and I really loved it, but I decided it was just a little too pricey right now (though I have to say it's also a look for less as it's $800 here and $1600 everywhere else I looked!). Number 7 is really gorgeous when you see the detail shots, and I probably would have gone with it but it has been sold out in the 9x12 for a while. So that brings us to Number 8, the one I chose, and maybe one of my best look for less scores yet!

It is the LoLoi Loren rug, which I had seen early in my search but didn't want to pay $719 for it (the price it's listed for on probably a dozen sites). I was perusing Overstock a few weeks later and stumbled on what they call the "traditional distressed gray/slate rug" (not the brand name). It is the exact. same. rug. For $300 less! I think it's gorgeous and such a steal for a 9x12! It's even less if you need a smaller size (here is the 5x7 for $118).

I cannot wait to get this rug in and show it to you in our space! Keep an eye on Instagram and I'll show you when it arrives.

PS - I also ordered this rug pad since it's a very thin rug.

Summer Peach Picking

I love having our children photographed at sweet ages, and since Evan just had his first birthday it was the perfect time to capture both his one year portraits and our family photos. I had my heart set on a beautiful shoot picking fresh summer peaches, so we headed to one of our favorite local farms (Meadowlark Farm in Rose Hill for those who are local) and had so much fun picking and posing.

I keep thinking what a sweet season of life we're in. Yes, often a bit demanding and tiring, but really sweet. Our kids are at the most precious ages. Lexie is smart as can be, sings and dances constantly and makes us laugh with all the funny and creative things she says. Evan melts my heart every moment - he's just absolutely adorable. I can hardly stop kissing his sweet face. He's snuggly and giggly and curious. These really are the good old days.

Our friend Katie of KT Photography did such a phenomenal job capturing these moments. We'll treasure these images for years to come.

By the end of the shoot he was covered in peach juice from taste testing our harvest.

My favorite season is summer, and I'm so happy to have these photos that perfectly capture that feeling of a summer evening well spent, picking peaches and making memories.

Revisiting the Powder Room

This little powder room I redid a few years ago for the One Room Challenge is still one of my favorite spaces in our house. It has tall ceilings, and is just spacious enough it doesn't feel cramped for a little hall bath. The wallpaper really brings it to life. But you know I can never leave anything alone for too long!

I swapped out a few accessories and it really refreshed the space. I found everything at Walmart and loved that I didn't have to spend a lot to liven things up. Thank you to Walmart for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are my own.

My favorite thing by far is this $11 turkish towel. It's more of a full-size towel but is thin enough that you can fold it up and it still works as a hand towel. I got the black color but also love the gray, and you really can't beat the price!

I also really loved this little geometric counter tray and canister. I use the canister to keep fresh flowers and greens in here, but in a more fully functioning bathroom it would be great for cotton balls, etc.

Can we just talk about this rug? I'm amazed at how much it looks and feels like a vintage one. The colors are soft and beautiful and it's a true flat weave that feels so much like my vintage ones. And it's only $22! Amazing!

I also picked up this cute little set of canisters. I loved the abstract patterns and the leather pulls.

Of course there's nothing I love more than shelf styling, so having this extra set of shelves in here is a fun way for me to switch things up. This geometric jar and the white wash textured vase were two things I changed out, and I know I'll use them all around the house.

I had so much fun refreshing this space! Walmart is quickly becoming my go-to for affordable decor. They carry so many different styles like vintage, modern and everything in between. You guys know I love sharing where to find affordable home decor so I'm happy to know they have so much available!
