It's sort of a modern-farmhouse look, since that's what I think best suits this room. I really am loving more modern design lately, and would love to inject it even more into our home. I blame instagram for that haha! Doesn't it just make you want to turn your whole house white with gold accents, pops of color, lucite tables, abstract art and trendy decor everywhere?! But, going all on-trend modern just doesn't fit the more cottage-y feel of this room with its wainscoting and charming built-ins. So I tried to channel my inner Joanna Gaines and settle with more of a modern-meets-farmhouse look. There's more to come, but the coffee table and a few pops of color were a start.
I sold the round table we had in here and originally ordered the tufted bench below to replace it (photo from my insta). It ended up not being quite right, so round two is where we are now.
I love the modern lines of the table mixed with the gray-wash top! The accessories on top are just what I had on hand, and I have plans for a different look. I also ordered sconces for either side of the fireplace, just haven't gotten them hung yet. That extra-long mantel is a saga in itself that I'll write a whole post about soon.
I'm excited to be taking a trip next month to Kansas City (to see Chip and Joanna Gaines at the KC home show no less!) and I'll also be hitting up Ikea for a new couch. As long as it's decently comfy, I plan to purchase their Stocksund sofa for this room. I was so happy that I sold a lot of decor I wasn't using and made enough for a new couch! The one we have is comfy but was purchased at Good Will (in good condition but already used), then given to me when I was in college. I've had it since I was 19! Needless to say, it's time.
The new sofa plus a few changes in accessories should mean this room is finally done...at least for now : )

I love love love that white window looking thing over your mantle - where did you get it?
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's an antique! I'd try architectural salvage stores and antique shops for something similar.
DeleteLoved this modern farm house coffee table! The decoration is simply amazing. Thanks for these inspirations my friend and sharing all pictures here. I will also be hosting a small coffee party soon and looking for apt Chicago venues for that.
