Top Five Posts of 2013

Happy New Year friends! I have been laying low the last few days on an extended break from work. I wish I could say I had been crossing things off my very long house to-do list (like painting our guest room) but honestly I've been mostly relaxing and spending time with Matt and our families. It's been heavenly!

I thought I'd share a quick recap of the top posts of 2013. It's always so interesting to see which posts people connect with most. As with previous years, you gals sure love Christmas decor! Here are the top posts from the last year:

5. Shades of Summer
I spruced up our (former) living room with shades of blues and aquas for a cool, calm summertime look.

4. Holiday Housewalk 2013
Thank you so much to Jennifer Rizzo for selecting our home tour as a top 12 finalist in the Housewalk again this year!

3. Simplicity
About this time last year we were clearing things out and freshening up for the new year.

2. Christmas 2013 Living and Dining Room
Our new house got some festive touches.

1. First Look at Our New Living Room
Looks like my favorite room in our new house is also your favorite! Thanks for all the love!

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read my little blog. It really means the world to me that I can have a creative outlet like this, and it wouldn't be possible without you guys! I'm excited to see what's in store for 2014...let's just say there are whole rooms of our house I haven't even shared yet, and I'm just as excited as you to see how they end up : )

Have a wonderful new year!

Merry Christmas!

I hope you all have the most wonderful and blessed Christmas!

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this."

Powder Room Inspiration

We are slowly pulling the house together, and the small powder room off our kitchen is next on my list. I'm hosting a baby shower at the beginning of February and would like my guests to have a pretty place to powder their nose. That, and the room drives me nuts right now. It's not big at all, just enough room for a sink and toilet. It has a (crappy) builder-grade vanity, plain mirror and basic sconce. I won't be replacing the vanity right now (although this would be perfect) but I do plan to dress it up a little by removing the door and replacing it with a gray linen skirt to soften the look.

This is sort of the direction I'm going. Since most of our house is gray and white, I thought I'd continue the theme : ) I plan to mix texture, pattern and a few fun punches to make the little space special.

When sourcing mirrors, I realized I have a vintage etched mirror sitting in the garage. I had bought it for the shop but it was only $20, way cheaper than any other mirror I've picked out. I'm not sure if I will replace the sconce right now just to keep costs down, but if I did I'd pick the one in the inspiration collage for sure!

Eventually I'd love to add beadboard halfway up the wall, and maybe some wallpaper like this, but we're not tackling that right now. So for now the room will be all about accessories. I plan to hang two white shelves on the largest wall with a variety of fun little accents to add some interest. The room has a nice sized window with custom blinds, but I plan to make a faux roman shade to soften it.

I can't wait to see how it comes together! This will be my after Christmas project so I will definitely keep you posted on things!

Have a great weekend!

Holiday Housewalk 2013

http://www.jenniferrizzo.com/2013/12/show-us-your-holiday-home-linky-party.html

Good morning friends! Today I'm taking you on a tour of my home all decked out for the holidays, including a room you haven't seen before! I'm joining in Jennifer Rizzo's Holiday Housewalk for the third year - I just love this party! Let's start the tour!

Living Room

Our living room is my favorite room in the house and probably the one that is most complete. We just moved in to this home about 2.5 months ago so it is definitely a work in progress. This room is done in warm neutrals with heavy doses of white. For Christmas I kept with that theme and added lots of mercury glass, silver and fresh greens.

Our tree is dressed up with white poinsettias and plenty of silver ornaments.

You can see more photos of our living room at Christmas here and get more details and sources here.

Dining Room

Our living and dining are actually one space. I painted the French provencial dining set myself, and for Christmas kept it simple by dressing the chandelier and centerpiece in more fresh pine.

Kitchen

Our kitchen includes just a few festive touches like candy canes, peppermints, Santa mugs, greenery and wreaths in the window.

Hearth Room

Our hearth room opens off the kitchen and is bright but cozy. The perfect spot for hanging our stockings and a fresh pine wreath!

I love the look of this little rosemary tree in an old locker basket!

Breakfast Nook

On the other side of the hearth room is a built in hutch and a little eating area. My collection of whiteware and ironstone is stored on the shelves.

Master Bedroom

So far our room is the only one of four that even has furniture. I've not showed it on the blog before because it's not really "done" but I did add some Christmas touches so I thought I would share today.

To see our former home at Christmas last year, you can go here.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed the tour, and be sure to stop by Jennifer Rizzo's Holiday Housewalk for tons more inspiration and holiday homes!
